PROJECTS ABOUT
IN MEMORY OF MY SERVICE DURING THE DUTCH EAST INDIES (2016)

Memorial clothes are colourful batik canvases often displaying idealised scenes from the Indonesian war of independence (1945-1949). A few Dutch soldiers returned to there home country bringing memorial cloths as a memory of their service. We have documented and analysed these souvenirs processing informative results into a website. Due to the fact that Bronbeek is both a museum and a home for the elderly, we felt the need to document the personal stories of the veterans. The cloths acted as starting point for our conversations. We recorded the interviews and integrated them into the website. A part of the current museum's archive has now been disclosed in a modernized way while adding new untold personal stories.
